Last Day of Elementary School

The last week of school was many things.  Both kids had excellent report cards.  They had parties at school, unmasked, and field trips that we were able to attend.  It was the closest to a pre-covid world as we have seen at school.  The DLI graduation ceremony was beautiful, attended by a Spanish Consular Officer as well as the kids' wonderful teachers over the years.  The fifth grade also attended a memorial for a fellow fifth grader who passed away of cancer last week.  The weight of this could be felt throughout the celebrations.  And Reed has been struggling with allergies to the point of wanting to skip the last day of school.  These fifth graders started elementary school in a different world than they ended it.  We all learned the importance of school in our children's lives as a social and emotional world, perhaps even more than for education.  We are just so grateful to the be the parents of these two amazing children.
