Last Day of Elementary School

Image
The last week of school was many things.  Both kids had excellent report cards.  They had parties at school, unmasked, and field trips that we were able to attend.  It was the closest to a pre-covid world as we have seen at school.  The DLI graduation ceremony was beautiful, attended by a Spanish Consular Officer as well as the kids' wonderful teachers over the years.  The fifth grade also attended a memorial for a fellow fifth grader who passed away of cancer last week.  The weight of this could be felt throughout the celebrations.  And Reed has been struggling with allergies to the point of wanting to skip the last day of school.  These fifth graders started elementary school in a different world than they ended it.  We all learned the importance of school in our children's lives as a social and emotional world, perhaps even more than for education.  We are just so grateful to the be the parents of these two amazing children. ...

Vern

Mama, I feel bad for people who don’t have a Vern.  They have terrible dogs who chew on their stuffies.  When Vern was born the angels played their trumpets and there was a small Vern sized disco ball. And Pig was there.  -Cora

Cora asks to play in the gym, even after a full day of camp.  She finished a full cycling workout.

Francine

Today, Reed googled bearded dragons and discovered after a year that France is actually Francine.  He has taken the news with grace and maturity.

Hanalei

Hanalei!  At sunset! In summer!  Apparently there are boats in the bay all summer.  And the bay is so calm!

This girl comes down dressed from bed, eats her almond flour pancakes at the counter, helps pack her bag, and loves every moment of summer camp.  And she comes home ready for Rescue Riders and then more play.

Castles in the Sand

Image
Even though she wasn’t feeling perfect (took a home COVId test that morning) she still played most of the morning in the sand.  And Reed created a haunted cave.

Just to add to the magic of the farm…

Merrimans

With the island’s best restaurants booked for the entire summer, we were lucky to get into our favorite place.

Poke the Bird

Cora came down with some mild croup today and kept us close to home, but with an putting for Peace, Love and Shaved Ice, of course.

Kahakapo Trail

This hike winds through a eucalyptus forest.  Precious shade and a football.

Some traditions grow with time.  We were lucky to visit thus farm twice in 2021.

Wandering down to Wailea-Makena and lunch at the Four Seasons overlooking the water. Hot and then rain for just one instant.
